Village and Community Hall Licensing

There is not a definition as to what constitutes a "Community Hall" or "Village Hall" and as such each case must be decided on its individual merit.

Generally it is expected that the hall will be used by the community as a whole and not just a small section of the community. It is also expected that the financial benefits of hiring of the hall does not constitute private gain for an individual or organisation. Any proceeds of hiring should be reinvested in the hall or the local community.

The presence of a management committee drawn from the local community may assist in proving that the hall is in fact a community facility.

It would therefore be a matter to be dealt with on a case by case basis as to whether a school hall that is used primarily to provide educational facilities but is hired for events would constitute a community hall.
