We offer grants and loans to help residents who need extra support to stay safe and comfortable in their homes. You don’t need to be a council tenant to apply.
We also offer interest-free loans to help bring long-term empty properties back into use.
Disabled Facilities Grant
We provide this grant to residents within the district with a physical, mental or sensory disability and it is used to adapt your home so that you or a family member can live more independently.
Disabled Relocation Grant
In cases where a property cannot be suitably adapted with a Disabled Facilities Grant, and moving home offers better value for money, a Disabled Relocation Grant of up to £20,000 may be offered.
This can cover legal fees, moving costs and any agreed additional amount needed to purchase a more suitable home.
- The grant is repayable if the property is sold (or if the applicants pass away) within 10 years.
- Applicants must be eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant.
- The grant is subject to a means test.
- It will cover up to 70% of the costs.
Handyperson service
We provide funding to the East Kent Home Improvement Agency to support a handyperson service that helps vulnerable households. This is for people aged over 55 who are disabled and need extra help with smaller tasks in their home.
If this would be helpful to you, please get in touch with the handyperson team.

Empty Property Loan
Kent County Council (KCC) runs a scheme called No Use Empty which helps to bring long-term empty properties back into use.
If you have been approved for a No Use Empty loan, we can provide an additional interest-free loan of up to £15,000 to supplement the KCC loan.
The loans are repayable after three years.
