We support a range of government‑led resettlement schemes for people who have been displaced by conflict. Working with local partners, we help eligible households find accommodation, access essential services and integrate into the community.
Afghan Resettlement Programme
As a district council we, along with neighbouring local authorities, are playing our part in the success of the Government's Afghan Resettlement Programme (ARP).
Since 2023, we have welcomed a number of Afghan citizens who have worked alongside British Military and the British Government.
These families can live in the UK permanently under the Afghan Resettlement Programme.
They are supported to resettle by our Dover Asylum Resettlement Team (DART) who work as part of housing services to provide community integration, engagement and support.
We have also worked closely with landlords in the private rented sector to find homes for them.
The Government created a £5 million fund to help councils with the work and those households already on our housing waiting list will not be disadvantaged by the support we have offered to Afghan families.
Support for Ukrainian families
We have played an important role in supporting families who were rehoused in the district after the war in Ukraine began. Although the level of need has reduced, we continue to offer support to Ukrainian households living in our area.
Our team is available to help if issues arise, ensuring families can maintain stability and feel part of the community.
Drop in at Beehive
The Dover Asylum Resettlement Team runs a weekly drop‑in session for all at Beehive in Dover on Thursdays at 1pm where people can access advice, discuss any concerns and connect with local services.
