What is building control?

Building control helps make sure building work is carried out safely and meets legal standards, known as building regulations.

The service checks that construction work complies with building regulations, covering areas such as structural safety, fire safety, energy efficiency and accessibility.

Our building control service

Our building control team provides advice, carries out site inspections and issues approvals throughout your project.

The aim is to ensure the health and safety of people in and around buildings.

Services include:

  • building regulations applications
  • control of demolition
  • control of dangerous buildings and structures.

We are legally responsible for the administration and enforcement of building regulations. These are standards in safety, health, energy conservation and access to buildings for disabled people either at home, at work or at leisure.

Our qualified and experienced team provides a service which is both independent and impartial.

Building regulations and Approved Documents

Building regulations set standards for the design and construction of buildings to ensure the safety and health of people, including those with disabilities in or around those buildings, and to help conserve fuel and power.

To help people comply with them, the government publishes guidance called Approved Documents on ways to meet building regulations.
