Building control ensures building work meets national standards for safety, health, energy efficiency and accessibility. If you’re planning building work, you may need to submit an application to our building control team before work starts.

There are two ways to apply for building control approval, either through the national Planning Portal service or by completing our downloadable forms.

Notification and inspections
Once you have submitted a valid application, you can request a site visit so we can inspect your building work.
You must notify us at specific stages of the work.
Exemptions
If you think your project may be exempt, please complete our enquiry form and we will confirm either way.
