If you have a disability, we may be able to provide certain adaptations to help you remain independent in your home.
This only applies if you are a council tenant or member of the household. If you are a homeowner or live in a privately rented property, you will need to refer to our private sector housing pages.
Medical assessment
Before we can agree to adapt your home, you will need to be assessed by an occupational therapist who will carry out a home visit to review your medical needs.
This will be used to make a referral to us for adaptation work.
You can arrange an assessment with an occupational therapist using the contact details below:
- for adult services (over 18s) call 03000 416161
- for children services (under 18s) call 03000 411111
- for minor adaptations (hand or grab rails) email social.services@kent.gov.uk (opens in new tab)
- complete a Care Needs Assessment form (opens in new tab)
Once we receive a recommendation from your occupational therapist we will consider the request.
If you are an occupational therapist, you should make your referral to us using the form below.
What happens next
If we approve the adaptations, they will fall into one of two categories - minor and major works.
If we refuse a request for adaptations, we will advise you of the reasons why and suggest alternative solutions.
