We are redesigning our website to make it easier for you to access our services online.
This is happening in phases so you'll start to notice some parts of the website looking different.
A resident parking permit lets people who live in a specific area park in designated spots near their homes. It helps manage parking and gives residents priority to park in busy or restricted places.
To apply, you need to provide proof of address and vehicle ownership. Permits are valid for a set period and charges vary depending on the zone.
You can have two vehicles registered on one permit, but only one can use it at a time. It’s your responsibility to log into your online account and choose which vehicle is covered that day.
If you live within the town walls of Sandwich, you have the extra option to apply for an off-street parking permit rather than a specific zone, allowing you to park in Guildhall, Gazen Salts and the Quay car parks.

Your guide to resident parking permits
If you have bought a valid permit, you can park in designated bays in your zone without worrying about time restrictions.
The permit does not allow the vehicle to be parked on yellow line restrictions or in pay and display areas on-street, except Deal Zone 2, where the permit is valid for parking in Beach Street on-street pay and display bays, north of the Royal Hotel.
You may have two registration numbers on one permit, but only one vehicle may make use of the permit at a time and it is your responsibility to access your online permit account and select which vehicle you wish to be covered by the permit on any given day.
We have the discretion not to issue permits to anyone who has three or more unpaid and unchallenged Penalty Charge Notices.
To qualify for a permit, your vehicle must be taxed and have a current MOT otherwise the permit may be withdrawn/refused.
A current council tax bill must be provided for the property and a copy of the front page of your DVLA registration document (V5C) to show the vehicle is registered to the address.
Permits are only available for cars, motorcycles (with or without sidecar) and light vans not exceeding 3,500 kg in weight, 5.55m long, 2.5m high or 2.1m wide excluding wing mirror.
If the permit is being bought for a second home, a current year council tax or utility bill for that property will be acceptable.
If a hire or lease vehicle, we will need confirmation from the lease or hire company.
Residents driving company vehicles should upload a letter from their employee, on headed paper, confirming permission to drive/park the vehicle at the home address.
Two permits can now be purchased for each household, except Dover Zone C.
If the conditions of the Traffic Order are broken, the permit will no longer be valid and will be withdrawn.
Buying a permit does not guarantee a parking space, but it lets your vehicle stay in the zone without a time limit.
Disabled drivers displaying a valid Blue Badge may park in an on-street marked bay without time limit in limited waiting parking areas and do not require a residents permit.
If the permit account holder requests any document uploads, permit amendments or corrections to be processed, there will be a £5 administration fee.
When your permit is due for renewal, do not start a new application.
You can renew your permit by logging into your account, opening the permit from My Permits and selecting the 'renew' button.
The automated virtual parking permit system will send the permit holder a reminder one month before the permit expires, however the responsibility to renew any permit on its expiry falls to the permit holder.
If you no longer need your permit or have changed address, you must update or cancel it through your permit account.
If the permit is six months old or less, you’ll get a partial refund minus a £20 admin fee, paid back to the original card used to pay for the permit.
Visitor permits
Daily visitor permits can be bought through the My Permit account. This allows visitors to park in designated spaces while visiting friends and family or having an extended stay in the district.
