Historic parks and gardens

Historic parks and gardens within the district form an important part of our heritage.

They can provide areas of open space for recreation and education, benefits for biodiversity, as well as containing historic buildings and structures such as terraces, gazebos and sculptures. In some cases, they may contain buried archaeological evidence that could illustrate earlier origins of the site. All of these factors contribute to their significance.

Some of the historic parks and gardens are privately owned, while others are publicly accessible. Registered Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in the district are of national importance and are identified in the National Heritage List for England.

Kent Compendium of Historic Parks and Gardens

Others parks are listed in Kent County Council's (KCC) Kent Compendium of Historic Parks and Gardens.

We have worked with the Kent Gardens Trust to research the history and development of several gardens in the compendium and produced reports which detail their significance. You can view these below.
